Many people have stumbled across this blog searching for information about Equine Odontoclastic Tooth Resorption and Hypercementosis (EOTRH), and the posts are all tagged with EOTRH, but I figured it might be easier to put them on their own page in order!
My OTTB Jack was diagnosed with advanced EOTRH in May of 2020, a month after his 25th birthday. Over the following 6 months, he had all of his incisors pulled. Below is the posts in order - some have gruesome photos, but there are always warnings and plenty of space left if you don't want to see them :) if you have any questions about my experience with EOTRH that aren't addressed in the posts, feel free to drop me an email at trainwreckinteal@gmail.com.
- Initial diagnosis
- First round of extractions (top incisors)
- One week check post-extractions
- Bottom incisor issues leading to another extraction
- Second round of extractions (bottom incisors)
- Check up post-second round of extractions
- First regular dental post-extractions
- If there are any other EOTRH-related updates, I will continue to update the page!
Jack has zero issues eating grass or hay (he receives a mixture of grass hay and straight alfalfa) -- aside from no longer using a hay net in his stall, I haven't made any other management changes. He is still sassy and obnoxious as ever!
At his recent annual check up and dental in March of 2022, the vet was very pleased with his weight and attitude :) 27 looks good on him!
