Horse Trailer Conversion: Sink Edition

Sorry not sorry to be coming to the end of these posts! I think the last step (pun fully intended) will be to build a little step cabinet to tuck the camping toilet in, but for now, with the sink pretty functional it's ready to go!

We went back and forth on countertop materials all week but finally decided on a slab of butcher block.

It was expensive so we cut a guide our of plywood and then insulation just to make sure we had the measurements right.

Voila!

I HATE STAINING

This stain in particular was really shitty to work with.

We had to run to town to grab something and I fell in love with these hooks 🤩

Getting everything installed so we could also finish trim.

Room out in the side for my contacts and toiletries and whatnot

This is an example of what the sink will function like. One (full) water jug will be the clean water, dispensed through the rechargeable faucet. It will drain into an empty jug for the gray water.

Enjoy a quick video tour! DH is gone most of this week at a work conference, and I'm prepping stuff for my surgery next week, so things will probably be pretty quiet through the end of the year around here - although I'm hoping to resume lessons in December if the weather cooperates!

  1. It looks so good! Are you having ankle surgery?

    1. Nope, bilateral salpingectomy since my ankle meant I met my deductible this year so I'm getting any medical things I've been putting off due to cost done 🤣

    2. Good plan! I *almost* met my deductible, but thankfully have nothing major I need to gave done. Good thoughts for a speedy recovery!

    3. This is the first year in probably a decade I've had anything aside from quarterly chiropractic and preventive visits, so I decided to go big or go home apparently lol.

  2. It looks great! Don't mind me as I ask the very dumb question, but where will the tack and supplies go? I have not been keeping up well 😬😂

    1. My trailer is a slant with a collapsible rear tack so most of it will go back there, but for big shows I will also probably have stuff stashed in my truck - thankfully it's a crew cab long bed so tons of space! I am also exploring the possibility of getting a stud divider for my first stall so I can use it for storage, but that's not super high priority right this second.

    1. It was weirdly hard to find one that small? And then one that sat on the countertop vs being a drop in or undermount. Oh well. Worth the searching!

  4. That trailer is amazing. You should get a lot of great use out of it.

    1. I hope so! I'll have to sleep in it at A LOT of horse shows to recoup the money I spent on this conversion, lol.

  5. This came out so amazing! I love the teeny sink. But obviously the best part is the ceiling. You and DH make a legit design team!

    1. Haha I am like the least visual person ever so it's cool that things came together so cohesively!

  6. I LOVE IT!! When I was a kid we used to set up our 4-berth bumper pull horsebox to camp in, as a whole family, at shows. People thought we were insane, but it worked great! And being right there at the show with your horse is honestly just such a fun and convenient experience.

    1. I don't think that's insane at all! I have put a cot in many a horse trailer 🤣 I'm just getting too old for that and need the comfort of a real (albeit small) mattress and climate control lol
