By now if you follow me on social media, you may have seen the big news -- the goats are gone! They left for their new home on Sunday, at a breeding farm down south. While I will miss the cute bouncing baby goat antics, I will not miss the rest of the issues they caused (of course because I said that, the first thing that popped up in FB memories yesterday was an ADORABLE photo of last year's doelings). Selling them was quite a process, but I am thankful we found a home that will continue breeding them and isn't immediately going to eat them. They're meat goats, I know, but that still doesn't mean I didn't get irrationally attached!
It was an interesting experiment, and they provided a lot of fun blog content over the last four years, but I will not miss them!
Looking forward to getting off work this afternoon and enjoying my freshly dragged arena! (photo from last night) |
You were a great goat owner. I enjoyed their antics but have zero desire to actually own a goat. 😉
ReplyDeleteThat arena looks perfect
Yeah the enjoyment/effort scale was far out of whack with the goats lol.
DeleteI will cheer with you! WOOOO! I hear nothing but horror stories about owning goats and am baffled why anyone has them at this point lol
ReplyDeleteIt's so weird, because the friend that originally got DH into goats had a WAY bigger herd for a way longer time and he NEVER had issues like we had -- and his standards of care were a bit... ermmm... lower? than ours. So I don't get it at all. Maybe benign neglect is actually how they thrive and I was just overly involved hahaha. At any rate, not sad they're gone!
DeleteI absolutely adore goats, they are some of my favorite animals. But after having cared for them at various farms for years, and the unexpected horrors that happened (apparently goats try to kill themselves even more than horses do) I can confidently say I'd never have them. Happy goat-free life, so glad you were able to find them a wonderful situation!
ReplyDeleteThey honestly are such funny, personable little creatures. I really enjoyed spending time with them and watching their antics and herd dynamics, it's just that the level of care they required was not at all proportional to the enjoyment they brought lol.
DeleteGoats are adorable... especially when they belong to someone else!
ReplyDeleteGoats that belong to someone else are DEFINITELY the cutest, lol.
DeleteAwww no more bebe goat pics
ReplyDeleteThat is definitely the thing I will miss most :( or silly bebe goat videos with their funny little noises (which keep coming up in my memories this week!).
DeleteThat little spotted pajama bottom baby you had a few years back almost made me change my mind, but I've heard horror stories of goat destruction - especially trashing vehicles. It also seems like they require a next level containment situation. Cute when they're little though!
ReplyDeleteSpotty pajama bottoms was quite a looker, lol. He's living the high life as breeding stock with lots of girlfriends! A coworker of my husband's bought him so I still see photos ❤️
DeleteWe never had much problem keeping them contained, although I heard plenty of horror stories when we got them so it's possible we proactively built really good fences 🤣 they're just freakin' suicide machines. I never thought I'd meet an animal more self-destructive than horses, but then we got goats 😳
