When we last left off, we had started the siding process, and were on a tight deadline because the kitchen cabinets were scheduled for delivery (today incidentally 😂).

Cedar wrap on the porch beams |

Finishing the insulation on the 4th of July |

Working on siding over the long weekend |
Check that off the list! |
Cedar ceiling on the front porch |
We liked it on the front so much we did it on the back porch too! |
Managed to use this saw without cutting off any fingers, go me! |
I interrupt this pictorial on house construction to give you an egg-eating 🐍 😂 |
I cut and installed blocking for my piano bookcase 💪 |
We insulated the utility room so we don't have to hear the furnace, washer, dryer, etc. Insulating interior walls is kind of a bitch! |
Staining the porch |
Literally the best stain - shout-out to my old Barn Owner for the heads up. Worth the $$ and wait from Amazon. |
Drywall delivered |
Insulation and blower machine dropped off |
Prepping the back porch for stain |
He hated rolling the stain over his head for the front porch so he decided to try the sprayer on the back porch. |
Looks sharp! |
I rebelled from the never ending project list and we went trail riding one Sunday and it was glorious!! And then on the way home the truck's brakes were being a bit wonky so it went off to the shop and $600 the master cylinder is now no longer leaking....*womp womp womp* but at least we discovered the problem before anything worse happened! |
Drywall hung in a day (not this past Monday, but the Monday before) |
Blowing in insulation the day the drywall was hung (I told you, tight schedule! Haha). Initially the drywall was supposed to go up over the weekend which would have given us Sunday to blow in the insulation - when they didn't show the Saturday they promised we were annoyed, but it ended up working out because we got to blow in the insulation when it was 70 and drizzly instead of 95+! |
So many bales of itchy insulation |
Drinking my dinner a few hours in |
My boss lent me a tyvek suit and it really did help, but god it was HOT |
Drywall finishing materials dropped off the next day - he was astonished we got all the insulation done 😂😂 |
Picking paint color |
The drywall finisher will paint the ceiling and prime the walls, and then everything is getting painted a nice neutral grey - down the line if I feel like painting individual colors in rooms I can, but for now it's just too many choices and my head was going to explode, so a single neutral it is! |

Double door opening for the guest closet |
Haha so the drywall hangers forgot to cut out the return in the living room 🤦 thankfully we noticed before the finisher got to working on the ceiling so we got it fixed. |
I didn't take any more photos last night (#lazy) but basically the walls are done and he's ready to spray in the texture, and hopes to be done painting/priming by Friday -- and then we'll be on to prepping the woodstove surround and painting!
Wow so much work but it looks fantastic. I bet that cedar porch smells incredible.
ReplyDeleteIt did for a day or two, but out in the open air the smell dissipated pretty quickly. But it looks amazing now that it's stained!
DeleteI'm really itchy now.
ReplyDeleteYou and me both 😂😂 but it was worth it, the house is so comfortable now even in 100 degree temps with no A/C!
DeleteHey - looking SO good but yes, I feel sweaty for you. Can't wait to see what it looks like now
ReplyDeleteI'm excited to maybe get some paint slapped up this weekend! The drywall made such a HUGE difference 🥰
DeleteYou guys are crushing this!
ReplyDelete💪💪💪 the process has not been without it's fair share of hiccups 😂 but overall I feel pretty good about it!
DeleteIt probably doesn't seem like it to you, but this coming along so fast! It looks awesome! I'm so excited for you!
ReplyDeleteIt's simultaneously fast and sooooo slow - but I think that's a byproduct of us planning to do this for 10 years 😂 the last bit of finishing is going to drag, since we're doing that ourselves and we both have, ya know, jobs and commutes and chores and whatnot 🤦
DeleteWow, its coming together so fast!
ReplyDeleteIt's both fast and slow at the same time haha
DeleteIt looks amazing! Building a house is a lot of work (and stress!) and after moving into ours four years ago, I don't think I ever want to do it again hahaha. We painted the interior (two floors, five colors OMG) by ourselves to save money. 0/0, DO NOT RECOMMEND.
ReplyDeleteYeah I'm definitely never doing this again, I plan to DIE in this house 😂
DeleteAnd geeze, hard pass. One floor, one color is daunting enough for me! We did buy this electric roller that's supposed to do walls pretty quick but there'll still be plenty of tedious corners and doors and where it meets the ceiling. I'm already annoyed thinking about it 🤦
It looks so good, its going to look even better when done!
ReplyDeleteI hope so! 🤞🤞
DeleteWow, super impressive!! Love the stain you chose, that turned out beautiful. Can also not recommend choosing multiple wall colors - did all the painting on my new build last summer. The cutting in, trim and brush cleaning seemed never ending.
ReplyDeleteI figure once I have a chance to get all out stuff in and arranged to my liking, then if I feel SUPER strongly about a color, I can go room by room (or even accent wall by accent wall). But for now, everything = neutral works for me haha.
DeleteWow, looks amazing. I love that stain - totally investigating for my fence that needs to be done (...that I'm avoiding). I have a bunch of house projects I've been procrastinating.
ReplyDeleteThe Sikkens is good stuff! We could only buy it on Amazon, and 5 gallons cost us about $200 (youch) but the person who recommended it to me painted a cedar sign that's out in the elements every day and after several years of rough weather, it still looks amazing. So worth the investment!
