I know this is a "horse blog", but I'm going to briefly depart to share photos of our
very pregnant Boer
goats. I don't think it translates as well in photos, but they are
MASSIVE. Like whoa. Every time I see them laying down, I wonder how
they're going to get up again. Boer goats have a gestation of about 5
months, so they are due basically any time in the next few weeks (the
male goat was with them for about 2 months, so we don't really have an
exact "due date").

They
are fat, happy, healthy (soon-to-be) momma goats. The little boy goat (Sam) has been
having some issues -- he's a bit anemic, so he has had to submit to
daily catching for shots and doses of Red Cell. I am not complaining,
because DH happily sprung for a big container of Red Cell, that I fully
intend to hijack for my horses when he's done ;) haha.
DH
has been working on their shelter, to make it a little more substantial
for winter. It still needs some finishing touches, but hopefully it
will keep them nice and cozy! I promise to update ASAP as soon as I have
actual "kid" photos!
omg dem some big goats tho!!
ReplyDeleteAnd I really don't feel like the photos even do them justice haha. I tried to catch one yesterday to check her eyes (having easily done so in the past) and she took me grass skiing and almost dislocated my arm before I finally realized it'd be smarter to let her go 😂
DeleteThey don't look that big, but they do look cute. Can't wait for baby pictures though.
ReplyDeleteI should have taken overhead shots of them when they first arrived for more accurate comparisons 😂
DeleteAw, I hope I can have goats one day too. I think you need to do more posts about them!
ReplyDeleteI was not (am not?) wild about the whole goat thing but I guess I'm resigned to it at this point haha. The babies should be cute lil buggers though. I will probably do more posts on them when the babies arrive -- right now it's mostly "the nannies are eating terrifying amounts of food and rapidly expanding" 😂
DeleteCan't wait to see the babies! My trainer has her horses on red cell and gives it a big thumbs up
ReplyDeleteYay for kids! And I've heard really good things about Red Cell -- and it's not expensive!
DeleteDo you think they're packing 2 or 3 kids in there? I'm almost betting on 3!
ReplyDeleteI hope its only 2, but 3 is not outside the realm of possibility 🙈
