As usual, I'm taking a lead from
'Fraidy Cat Eventing with this unofficial blog hop! It started over with
DIY Horse Ownership, and I think it's a lot of fun. What kind (if any) of horse decor do you have in your house? My horse decor at home is sadly limited -- mostly because my decor in general is fairly limited. An interior designer, I am not. I have a few framed photos from the
Langrish photoshoot, and a canvas wrap of one of my favorite shots of Tres and Cinna as a foal. I have a handful of figurines tucked into my husband's multiple curio cabinets, and that's about it at my house.

This graces a canvas hung above my TV in my living room :) |
My office however, is a different story. I want to preface this by saying I'm a very visual person, and I tend to "nest" in my work spaces. I really like to have reminders of
why I'm spending 45 hours a week in a windowless cave, plus another 10 hours driving back and forth. When I first started my current job, I had a nice office with a wall of windows, and I just hung up a bulletin board full of photos. Then when they moved my department, they stuck me in an interior office that was like sitting in a beige coffin. I might have gone slightly overboard in response... I started off by making a ribbon border around the top of the wall. This was slightly more manageable when I moved into the office, and only had like 15 ribbons. Then the show season of 2015 happened, and things got a little out of control.

The poster in the middle is from the 2012 Olympic Games and is signed by the entire dressage team. |
|
The woodcutting resembles a Spanish horse, then there is a small shadow box in memory of my Grandpa, and a hand-drawn landscape from a former co-worker. |
I'm on to the 4th wall now -- if I show both Cinna and Ruby this year, that might finish it out. Then I have no idea what I'll do. But that's not all!
|
A champagne glass I won as a prize, Tres' trophy from Nationals, my President's Award from last week, and a ceramic statue a former coworker painted for me. There's also a framed print of some mustangs on the top shelf, along with various shit I've collected at various jobs plus some sentimental greeting cards. The yellow sign says "Horse Trail" and a friend... "borrowed"... it from a conservation area. |
|
This is an absolutely gorgeous photo with an INSANE matte/frame that I got from my in-laws for Christmas a few years ago. |
|
The framed prints on each side are Spanish in origin -- an Iberian horse in a traditional bridle, and a mosqero. The bulletin board has some more silly ribbons, and a lovely painting done by a friend based on one of the Langrish photos. |
I know, I kind of went nuts. But wait, there's more!
|
More Langrish photos, the only recent photos in my entire office (Ruby and Cinna from last fall), and the only plant I've ever been able to successfully keep alive longer than 6 months -- go me! |
|
More framed photos of Topaz (including a big one of our first blue ribbon), and a pot with horsehair from two of my horses (Jack and Ally). Also my plaque from USDF for my newsletter article that won an award at this last convention, but it's heavy AF and I need maintenance to hang it up and keep forgetting to call them, haha). |
|
My bulletin board OVERFLOWING with photos of my horses, dogs, and family/friends (mostly horses and dogs though, let's be real). Also my medals from several team competitions, and one memorable show that gave medals instead of ribbons. These photos were all printed in 2014 or earlier, so I BADLY need to update them and rotate them out. Fun story about the painting on the left -- I bought that painting in about 8th grade after falling in love with it at an art fair for no apparent reason. I hung onto it for YEARS even though I never had anywhere to hang it. And then when I bought Tres, I realized how much it reminds me of her (and now Cinna, since they're basically twins). So 10+ years before they came into my life, I already had an idea of what I was looking for.... |
|
More photos -- the riding photos of Ruby are from her very first show in November of 2014 (literally the last time I printed photos, haha). |
About half of my coworkers love my office, and the other half are abjectly horrified by it. They're in the process of revamping our org chart and my supervisor's supervisor is changing, and I'm terrified they're going to make us change offices again.... haha. If so, you'll hear the screaming all the way from MO!
|
This photo doesn't show it well but there are some small figurines and a few more photos tucked up under my monitors. But really, they're inconsequential in the scheme of everything else, haha. |
Sooooo that's my horse decor. How about you?
So, do you like horses or something?
ReplyDeleteI mean, it could be just a phase.... 😂
DeleteClearly people can't tell you like horses. I think you need more.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure where I could put more.... 😂
DeleteHa I love it!! And I definitely nest in my office too. Gotta remember why we bother, right? My current office is pretty bare tho since I only commute in once, mayyyybe twice a week. I like your ribbons tho - those wouldn't be too hard to bring in on the train!!
ReplyDeleteThe ribbons weren't hard to bring in -- even showing 2 horses in 2015 I typically only had 4 or 5 per show at the most.... But as several people have so helpfully pointed out to me, taking them all home again is going to be a BITCH (because realistically I'm probably not going to remain here until I retire hahaha). That's a bridge I'll cross when I get there I suppose.
DeleteDamn girl. I have one pic of my horse and it's in a back corner where only I see it.
ReplyDeleteI think that's probably normal. I'm not sure what my decor would be classified as, but "normal" is probably not the correct end of the spectrum....
DeleteWowwww so many ribbons! That's awesome :)
ReplyDeleteI think the first step is admitting you know....
ReplyDeletePretty sure by this point everyone knows I'm an addict....Haha.
DeleteHaha I'm kind of jealous, I don't have an actual office space at my job so I have nothing personal at all
ReplyDeleteThere are definitely pros and cons to having an office. At least you won't have anything to pack if you ever leave for a better job! Haha
DeleteWow. That's quite the office.
ReplyDeleteI have this thing where I go overboard a lot..... 😂
DeleteIt's a horse explosion in there! And I love it! I too work in a windowless cave, but clearly I don't have enough horse stuff in mine :)
ReplyDeleteYeahhhhh things got a little out of control 😂
DeleteI love it. I want to have a horsey office.
ReplyDeleteIt's pretty fun!
DeleteMy office doubles as my "trophy room" too!
ReplyDeleteYay, I'm glad I'm not alone!!
