Water Water Everywhere

I intentionally skipped Sunday in yesterday's post so I had something to write about for today (stretching out the meager amounts of content I have so I can manage 3 or 4 posts so you guys don't forget about me or anything haha). It was supposed to get a little warmer on Sunday. It might have, but it was still gross and cold. I bundled up (in a particularly matchy matchy teal and black outfit that I unfortunately got NO pics of) and headed out to work Ruby. I took the flash and throatlatch off the new bridle and tried it that way. Unfortunately punching holes in the noseband will have to wait -- DH destroyed my leather hole punch last year, and I keep forgetting to replace it.

Ruby was LIT from the minute I got on her. Which is fine, she's had a lot of time off and the weather has been all over the map. And as mature as she acts most of the time, she is just six. Melting ice was also sliding off the arena roof, which always adds to the fun! Even when she's UP, she's not bad, she's just.... expressive... She had a LOT of opinions Sunday. At one point I was trying to trot a diagonal to change directions and when I sat down to change my post, she exploded into a canter, with much flailing and leg flinging. I giggled at her for like 5 minutes before I managed to get myself back together and try again. In between outbursts, she did give me some really nice work, but there were lots of shenanigans. I also worked a lot more on sitting the trot. Ruby is six now, and definitely ready for me to ask harder things of her (and myself, since sitting her trot is infinitely harder for me than sitting Topaz's trot!). She actually worked up a tiny bit of sweat, so on our cool down walk, I worked on some TotF and leg yielding.
The new view is kinda fun!
Monday was pretty much a complete and total wash -- it started raining overnight, and continued most of the day. Combine that with all the water from the melted ice storm, and you've got some muddy, mucky conditions.
Before my dentist's appointment (blech), I spent some time pampering Cinna. The rain kept us inside, but I braided her mane over to one side (we'll see how long that lasts) and just worked on general manners. I'm seriously considering swapping her and Ruby at ACS so I can finally start putting some solid time into her, but I wanted to make sure her manners were fully installed first....

  1. I keep toying with the idea of braiding Charlie's mane like that but kinda dig his "hair everywhere" look lol. Also lol at Ruby's shenanigans. She probably thought she was soooo fancy haha ;)

    1. Cinna's falls on both sides of her neck (like her momma haha) but I figured if she's going to show more this year and do things, easier to train it to one side now? We'll see how long the braids last haha. And yes, Ruby was pretty sure she was the fanciest pony EVAH! 😂

    1. I'm glad you think so 😉 I agree, but there might be some bias there....

  3. Are our horses synced up for shenanigans or what? I'm trying again tonight to see what kind of behavior I get...

    1. I don't know if I should blame the weather, the phases of the moon, Mercury in retrograde.... Or aliens!

Hopefully you have better results tonight!

  4. Sitting from posting means faster. This is baby horse logic.

I think everyone was up last weekend. At least that's what my sore body is telling me. Haha!

    1. Ruby lost baby horse status when I started Cinna ;) only one baby horse in my life at a time! lol

But yes, sounds like we all had WYLD PONEHS!

    2. Lol. Aria and Valeria strongly disagree. As 4 and 6 year olds respectively they are adamant that baby status lasts until maybe 9 with the occasional lapse of judgement until 12.
Hold on...this sounds like I'm being duped.
